Adam Birnbaum is one of the leading voices in jazz piano today. Since earning his Artist’s Diploma in jazz studies from The Juilliard School in 2003, he has been a fixture on the New York City jazz scene, performing at iconic venues like the Village Vanguard, Blue Note, and Birdland. His performances have also taken him to prominent stages worldwide, including the Kennedy Center, the Montreal Jazz Festival, and the Cape Town Jazz Festival.

As a leader, Birnbaum has released four acclaimed albums. His debut, Ballade Pour Adeline, earned a Gold Disk award from Swing Journal, while his U.S. release Travels received critical praise in JazzTimes and All About Jazz. His trio album Three of a Mind, featuring Doug Weiss and Al Foster, was celebrated as a standout in contemporary piano trio jazz by The New York Times and Downbeat magazine.

A versatile sideman, Birnbaum has performed with jazz luminaries like Al Foster, Regina Carter, and Wynton Marsalis, as well as rising stars like Cecile McLorin Salvant. He has appeared on over 25 albums as a collaborator. As a composer, his work has been praised for its creativity and originality, including the trio suite Dream Songs, commissioned by Chamber Music America.

Born in Boston, Birnbaum studied at the New England Conservatory before joining Juilliard’s inaugural jazz program. He is a former Cole Porter Fellow in Jazz and has received numerous accolades, including the American Jazz Piano Competition and a special mention at the Martial Solal Jazz Piano Competition. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor of Jazz at SUNY Purchase and a Steinway Artist.
